Do I need to be a Rhode Island resident to register my boat in Rhode Island?
No. If the principal mooring area (more than ninety days per year) of your boat is in Rhode Island, it should be registered here.

May I register my new boat online?
No. You must register your boat in person at the Department of Environmental Management, Office of Licensing and Registration. For more information, please visit: http://www.state.ri.us/dem/programs/bpoladm/manserv/hfb/index.htm

How often do I need to renew my boat registrations?
Rhode Island registers boats on a biennial (2-year) basis with an option to register boats greater than thirty feet on an annual basis for one half the biennial fee. A registration year is March 1st through the last day of February of the following year.

How do I renew a boat registration belonging to a business or organization?
For businesses or organizations, please use the boat registration number, rather than the last name, to complete the renewal.

How do I renew my boat registration?
Renewals may be completed in person at the Department of Environmental Management, Office of Licensing and Registration; sent my mail; or completed online.

If I give my credit card information online is it safe?
RI.gov takes your privacy and security seriously. Our technology and policies are designed to make your transactions safe, private and secure.

Our secure socket layer software uses state of the art encryption to ensure that your personal and financial information cannot be intercepted during transmission to our server.

Encrypted personal information includes credit card number, name and address.

Will you sell my information to telemarketers?
No. We are just as concerned about ensuring your safety as you are. RI.gov will not trade, rent, or sell your personal or financial information.
