RIDOT & Warwick Mayor Avedisian Announce Airport Road Repairs to Begin This Summer

With the recent advertisement of bids to construction contractors, and the anticipation of the bid opening date next month, Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Director Michael P. Lewis today joined Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian in announcing that repairs to Airport Road in the City of Warwick are slated to begin this summer.

“In just a few short months, we will begin repairs to Airport Road in Warwick,” said RIDOT Director Lewis. “Through a $3.6 investment, our project will focus on improving the roadway’s surface for the nearly 31,000 vehicles that use it every day.”

Recognizing the significance of this project to the City of Warwick, Mayor Avedisian added, “Airport Road is one of the City’s most heavily traveled streets, and has been in need of significant repairs for some time. We greatly appreciate RIDOT’s commitment and perseverance in ensuring that this project remained a priority.”

RIDOT’s Resurfacing Project for Airport Road will cover 1.5 miles of Airport Road from Post Road to Warwick Avenue. The improvements will consist of cold planing and resurfacing the roadway. The job will also include the addition of new concrete curbing, new sidewalks, new traffic signal equipment, new signing, and new striping. Existing sidewalks will also be brought into Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2008 and the project is slated for completion in Summer 2009.
