Overnight lane and ramp closures to begin for Iway construction


Work begins Sunday night, April 20

Lane and ramp closures on I-95 for Iway construction will begin this Sunday night, April 20. As the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has scheduled the work, I-95 North between Exits 18 (Thurbers Avenue) and 20 (I-195) will be affected Sunday and Monday nights, and I-95 South in the same area will be affected Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The schedule calls for one lane to close at 8 p.m., and between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. three lanes to close, with one lane open to traffic.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, when the work is on I-95 South, the ramp from I-195 West to I-95 South will also be closed, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Traffic on I-195 West headed to I-95 South will be directed to take I-95 North to Exit 22 B (Routes 6/10) and to follow Route 10 South to Cranston, to continue on I-95 South.

During the I-95 South lane and ramp closures, Exit 19 to Rhode Island, Women & Infants and Hasbro Hospitals will remain open for traffic on I-95 South. Traffic on I-195 West heading to the hospital campus will be directed to take Exit 2 (South Main Street) and then routed over the Point Street Bridge and onto Eddy Street to quickly reach the hospitals.

The schedule will be carried out weather permitting.
