PROVIDENCE— Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts today issued the following statement on: the announcement that Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D – District 1) would not seek reelection in 2010.
"Patrick Kennedy's leadership on issues vital to Rhode Islanders and the nation will be deeply missed. He has helped to strengthen the health and social service delivery system here in Rhode Island with his support of community programs like Thundermist Health Centers, and Children's Friend and Service. He has also forever transformed mental health treatment throughout the country with his tireless and successful advocacy for mental health parity in our health insurance system.
“It has been my privilege to be Rep. Kennedy's ally in many of these efforts. His leadership will be missed in Rhode Island and across our country. I wish him well and know that his ongoing advocacy will continue to improve our country as he takes on new roles in his private life.”
