Governor Carcieri, Secretary of State Mollis to Honor Local Heroes for Saving Lives

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Governor Donald L. Carcieri and Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis will honor three police officers and a firefighter with the 2010 State Lifesaving Medal at the State House Wed., Oct. 13, at 10 a.m.

East Greenwich Police Officer Stanley Cirella beat out flames that blazed on the body of an East Greenwich man. Narragansett Fire Captain David Laudati revived a Charlestown man who was stricken by sudden cardiac arrest. Providence Officer Chris Poncia pulled two children from their burning home. Burrillville Sgt. Dennis Leahey rescued a man who was choking to death.

The State Lifesaving Medal recognizes the heroism of firefighters, police officers and civilians who save human life in Rhode Island. The medals are awarded annually.
