Kathleen Lyons of Cranston Recognized in February 4th Annual Employee Awards Ceremony

Kathleen Lyons of Cranston, R.I., Records and I.D. Captain, was among 29 Rhode Island Department of Corrections employees from all three of the Department’s divisions and five “Friends of the Department” recognized for their outstanding contributions during 2010 at the Department’s Annual Employee Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 4th, 2011.

Captain Lyons was a recipient of the 2010 Supervisor of the Year Award, which recognizes an outstanding supervisor whose skills, appearance, professionalism, and esprit de corps are exceptional and whose performance of duties is outstanding.

Acting Assistant Director of Institutions and Operations David McCauley presented the award, citing Captain Lyons’ role in organizing her staff for the implementation of the Department’s new Iris Scanning technology. AD McCauley noted that Captain Lyons’ collaboration with all the facilities’ staff resulted in the successful processing of the entire inmate population without any disruption to the facilities’ normal operations. The Captain also facilitated the related training for facility staff. As a result of these dedicated efforts, all facilities can now utilize this technology to properly identify inmates prior to releasing them, greatly improving security.

Captain Lyons has consistently displayed her dedication and loyalty to the Department during her 21-year career in corrections.
