Woonsocket Man Found Guilty of 1st Degree Child Molestation

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Lawrence Martin (DOB: 09/07/62), with a last known address of 128 Social Street in Woonsocket, was found guilty by a Providence County Superior Court jury of one count of first degree child molestation.

The verdict came just four hours after the conclusion of a 2-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Francis J. Darigan, Jr.

During the trial, the State showed that Martin had molested a five year old girl who resided in the same apartment building as he did in 2000. Scared of getting into the trouble with her parents, the victim disclosed the molestation to a relative a few years after the incident.

Martin has been out on $35,000 with surety bail since he was arraigned in March 2008. Justice Darigan granted the motion by the defense to remain out on bail pending the defense’s motion for a new trial, which is scheduled for May 16, 2011.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Shannon Signore.
