State Arts Council Announces 2013 Fellowship Exhibition to Open In Jamestown

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts will present the 9th Annual RISCA Fellowship Exhibition, showcasing work by 23 artists who received Fellowship Awards from the State Arts Council over the past year. The Fellowship Exhibition will run from February 14 through March 9 at the Jamestown Arts Center, an arts space located in Jamestown, RI.

The RISCA Fellowship Exhibition is an annual event that showcases the works of Rhode Island artists who have been awarded by the state for artistic excellence in their discipline. Fellowship Winners receive a $5000 award and Fellowship Merit Award Winners receive a $1000 award. Artwork by each of these artists will be included in the 2013 Fellowship Exhibition.

This year the RISCA Fellowship Exhibition will take place at Jamestown Arts Center, 18 Valley St, Jamestown, RI. The show can be viewed Thursday, February 14th through Saturday, March 9th.

The public is invited to attend:

  • Opening Artists Reception on Friday, February 15 from 6-9:00 PM, featuring musical performances by Music Composition Fellow Glenda Luck and Folk Arts Fellowship Merit Award recipient Silvio Cuellar and his group Voces de los Andes.
  • Fellowship Writers Night on Thursday, February 28 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM when literature Fellowship Award Winners will read from their most recent works. Opening remarks by Rick Benjamin, Poet Laureate of Rhode Island and a demonstration of traditional Irish Step Dance by Kevin Doyle
  • Closing Night and Artists Talk on Saturday, March 9 from 1-4:00 PM, when Fellowship artists will talk about their creative process.
  • All events are free and open to the public.

    Visual artists featured in the 2013 RISCA Fellowship Exhibition include Michelle Benoit, Nick Carter, Jill Colinan, Leslie Hirst, Ernest Jolicoeur, Aaron Jungels, Jay Lacouture, Denny Moers, Andrew Oesch, Frank Poor, Maria Scaglione, and Jesse Thompson. Video and music stations in the gallery will feature works by choreographers Heidi Henderson and Kathleen Gordon Smith, music composers Glenda Luck and Brian Knoth, filmmakers Ann Fessler, and Steven Subotnick, and New Genres artist Aaron Jungels. The Fellowship Writers Night will include readings by Edward Delaney, Leigh Medeiros, David O'Connell, and Anna Solomon.
