Health Insurance Commissioner Christopher F. Koller issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court's Affordable Care Act (ACA) ruling:
"As we continue to analyze the ruling and its implications, the following points have already emerged:
- This is good news for Rhode Island and our efforts to improve the affordability, quality, and accessibility of health insurance. The numerous tools the ACA gives us have been preserved.
- The ruling vindicates Rhode Island's strategy of moving aggressively and comprehensively to use the ACA's resources. Today I spoke with both Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse who offer their congratulations and gratitude for our work.
- If you are uninsured in Rhode Island, you have better prospects than in some other states. The ruling's Medicaid interpretation may give some latitude to states seeking to resist the ACA.
