Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Department Of Public Safety, announces the promotion of three (3) sworn members of the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenants Alan Verdecchia and Cheryl Freitas' promotions will take effect on April 21, 2013. The promotion of Lieutenant Armand Musumeci was effective March 24, 2013. The following are the promotes:
Lieutenant Armand Musumeci:
Lieutenant Armand Musumeci is a thirty-two (32) year-veteran of the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs. Lieutenant Musumeci has been assigned to all areas of operation within the Division of Sheriffs since he was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff in July 1981. He was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff Sergeant in April 2008.
Lieutenant Musumeci holds a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts from Rhode Island College and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. Lieutenant Musumeci will serve as the Officer-in-Charge of the Murray and McGrath Judicial Complexes.
Lieutenant Musumeci resides in southern Rhode Island with his wife and two children.
Lieutenant Alan P. Verdecchia:
Lieutenant Verdecchia is a twenty-six (26) year veteran of the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs and the former Rhode Island State Marshals. Lieutenant Verdeccia was previously sworn in as a Rhode Island State Marshal in August 1987. Lieutenant Verdecchia has served in the Division of Sheriffs Interstate Extradition Unit, Civil Process Unit and the Transportation Unit. He was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff Sergeant in May 2009.
Lieutenant Verdecchia is a 1985 graduate of Bryant College where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a 1988 graduate of the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy. Lieutenant Verdecchia will serve as the Officer-in-Charge of the Noel Judicial Complex.
Lieutenant Verdecchia resides in southern Rhode Island with his wife and two children.
Lieutenant Cheryl Freitas:
Lieutenant Cheryl Freitas is a twenty-seven (27) year veteran of the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs and the Rhode Island Capitol Police. Lieutenant Freitas began her career in law enforcement in 1986 while serving as a Capitol Police Officer for three years. In 1989 Lieutenant Freitas was sworn in as a member of the Division of Sheriffs. Lieutenant Freitas was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff Sergeant in March 2007. She has previously served the Division as an acting Lieutenant/Officer-in-Charge of the Garrahy Judicial complex and has served the majority of her career in the Providence, Rhode Island Judicial complexes.
Lieutenant Freitas has attended the criminal justice program at Roger Williams University. Lieutenant Freitas will serve as the Officer-in-Charge of the Garrahy Judicial Complex. Lieutenant Freitas resides in northern Rhode Island.
