Rhode Island State Police Promotes Six to the Ranks of Lieutenant, Sergeant and Corporal

Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Department Of Public Safety, announces the promotion of six (6) sworn members of the Rhode Island State Police into new ranking positions. A promotion ceremony will be held at a later date, and an announcement will be made when a date is finalized. The following are the promotees:

To the Rank of Lieutenant:

Lieutenant Dennis B. Fleming: Lieutenant Fleming, a 19-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police, has, over the course of his career, been assigned to all of the barracks. As a member of the Detective Bureau, he has served in the Intelligence Unit, the Area Detectives, the Auto Theft Unit, the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, as well as with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Lieutenant Fleming holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Norwich University and a Master's of Science in Justice Studies from Roger Williams University. He is currently assigned to the Detective Bureau/HIDTA Task Force.

Lieutenant Ann C. Assumpico: Lieutenant Assumpico is a 21-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police and has worked in all barracks as a member of the Uniform Bureau. She has also been assigned to the Crisis Incident Stress Management Team, and served on the RI Commission on Prejudice and Bias. Lieutenant Assumpico holds an Associates of Science Degree in Administration Justice from Roger Williams College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration Justice from Roger Williams University, and a Master's of Science Degree in Administration Justice from Salve Regina University. She is currently assigned as the Officer-in-Charge of the Planning, Research, and Accreditation Unit.

To the rank of Sergeant:

Sergeant Timothy J. Dandeneau: Sergeant Dandeneau is a 19-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police. As a member of the Uniform Bureau, he has been assigned to the Lincoln Woods, Hope Valley, Scituate, and Wickford Barracks. In addition, he has previously been assigned to the Violent Fugitive Task Force (VFTA)/Detective Bureau, and the Tactical (SWAT) Team. He is currently assigned to the Lincoln Woods Barracks as a Prosecution Officer.

Sergeant Erik W. Jones: Sergeant Jones is a 19-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police. As a member of the Uniform Bureau, he has been assigned to the Hope Valley, Lincoln Woods, Scituate, and Wickford Barracks, as well as the Canine Team. Sergeant Jones also served in the United States Marine Corps as a Forward Air Controller. Sergeant Jones is currently assigned to the Hope Valley Barracks.

To the rank of Corporal:

Corporal John E. Furtado: Corporal Furtado is a 19-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police. As a member of the Uniform Bureau, he has been assigned to the Hope Valley, and Lincoln Woods Barracks. Currently, Corporal Furtado is assigned to the Commercial Enforcement Unit (CEU).

Corporal Darnell S. Weaver: Corporal Weaver is a 19-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police. As a member of the Uniform Bureau, he has served in all of the barracks. Corporal Weaver also served in the United States Marine Corps. He is currently assigned to the Wickford Barracks.

Colonel O'Donnell stated, "These promotions within the Rhode Island State Police are the most difficult of all my responsibilities. The quality of our members is extraordinary. In making these selections, we recognize the leadership and the work ethic they have brought to the Division of State Police and the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety. These leaders and others will plot the future course of the Division of State Police".
