Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces the arrest of a Providence man on drug distribution charges by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force.
On August 29, 2013 at 10:00 p.m., members of the HIDTA Task Force executed a court authorized search warrant on a 2006 black Saturn Vue that resulted in the seizure of three hundred (300) grams of cocaine in a hidden compartment.
Harold Frets Diaz, age 36, of 84 Lexington Avenue Providence is alleged to have been in possession of the three hundred (300) grams of cocaine. He was arrested and charged with:
1. Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Deliver, 2. Possession of Cocaine 1 Ounce to 1 Kilo
Mr. Frets was processed at the Lincoln Barracks and arraigned in Sixth Division District Court. The Honorable Associate Judge William C. Clifton held Mr. Frets without bail on the above charges at the Adult Correctional Institute until a September 12, 2013 bail hearing.
The HIDTA Task Force is managed by the Rhode Island State Police and comprised of members from Providence Police, Pawtucket Police, Johnston Police, Smithfield Police, Central Falls Police, North Providence Police, United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the United States Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
