Traffic Advisory: Replacement of the Central (White Church) Bridge in Barrington Gets Underway Next Week

RIDOT announced today that work is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 30, 2013 to replace the Central Bridge, affectionately known as the White Church Bridge, in Barrington. The $15.4 million contract with Cardi Corporation will include removing the existing bridge, installing a new bridge, and conducting storm water mitigation work. Project completion is scheduled for May 2017.

There will be intermittent lane closures on the bridge during daytime hours over the project lifecycle. Full lane closures will occur on an as-needed basis during overnight hours. Next week the following work is scheduled:

Monday: Alternating traffic pattern for the installation of temporary wheel chairs ramps and crosswalk on Massasoit Avenue, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday-Wednesday: A full bridge closure for the installation of a temporary median barrier, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

Tuesday-Friday: Massasoit Avenue Westbound traffic, from Martin Avenue to County Road, one-way detour for re-striping the roadway, bolting down the temporary median barrier to the bridge deck, and install temporary fencing , 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Detour using New Meadow Road and County Road. Eastbound traffic will not be affected.
