Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces the arrest of a Providence man on drug distribution charges, by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force.
On November 12, 2013, members of the HIDTA Task Force executed a court-authorized search warrant at 589 Cranston Street, Second Floor, Providence, that resulted in the seizure of 13 grams of MDMA (Molly), 13 grams of Marijuana, $655.00 in United States currency, drug packaging material and a scale.
Joshua Morales, age 22, Cranston Street, Second Floor, Providence is alleged to have been in possession of the 13 grams of MDMA (Molly) and 13 grams of Marijuana. He was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (MDMA) and Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Marijuana).
Morales was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and arraigned in Sixth Division District Court on the new charges. The Honorable Associate Judge Joseph T. Houlihan held Morales without bail at the Adult Correctional Institute on the above charges and as a bail violator. Morales is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on February 3, 2014 related to the new charges.
At the time of his arrest Morales was on bail from a prior arrest. The State Police allege that on October 5, 2013, Morales in the company of a fourteen (14) year-old girl from Providence when he was stopped by a Trooper assigned to the State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks. The 14-year-old girl informed the Trooper that Morales had sexually assaulted her while traveling in the vehicle. In addition, she stated that Morales had placed a bag containing "Molly" down her shirt and instructed her to lie to the Trooper about her age as they were being stopped. A subsequent search of Morales' residence revealed an additional quantity of "Molly", as well as a digital scale, baggies, and assorted capsules consistent with distribution of MDMA or "Molly".
The investigation of the October 5th traffic stop led to Morales being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (MDMA), Possession of a Controlled Substance (MDMA), Weapons Other than Firearms Prohibited, Second-Degree Sexual Assault, Enticement of a Child, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Morales was initially held without bail on the charges. On October 21, 2013, Morales was released on $20,000 surety bail. Morales is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on December 16, 2013 related to these charges.
The HIDTA Task Force is managed by the Rhode Island State Police and comprised of members from Providence Police, Pawtucket Police, Johnston Police, Smithfield Police, Central Falls Police, North Providence Police, Rhode Island National Guard (RING), United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the United States Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
