Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, announces that the John Hope Settlement House will host "Building Bridges in the Community" Outreach Forum, in conjunction with Project Night Vision and the Mount Hope Neighborhood Association, to be held:
Friday, December 6, 2013 5:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. John Hope Settlement House 7 Thomas P. Whitten Way Providence, Rhode Island
Recruits from the Rhode Island State Police Training Academy and the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy will be on hand for this important dialogue with the citizens they will soon serve.
State and local law enforcement, community leaders, and citizens will continue to "bridge the gap" of understanding between law enforcement and the communities they so diligently serve on a daily basis. Members of the public and the media are invited to join this open dialogue as we discuss strategies to improve the quality of life for everyone. The recruits will engage with the community during a question and answer session. Through healthy discussion, community members will gain knowledge and confidence in those who will soon be sworn in as the newest members of law enforcement.
The event will begin with a free community spaghetti dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. followed by the meet and greet public forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
When Colonel O'Donnell was sworn in as Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, he made a commitment to build trusting relationships among our state's communities. This is an effort to enhance our partnership and let the recruits hear firsthand the issues from the communities they are going to serve.
