Correctional Officer Arrested on Charges Relating to an Excessive Use of Force Investigation

Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, and A.T. Wall, the Director of the Adult Correctional Institution, announce the arrest of an Adult Correctional Institution Officer on charges relating to the excessive use of force on a prisoner in the High Security Facility. The State Police identified the Correctional Officer as Jonathan Addison, age 44, of 365 Simmonsville Avenue, Johnston RI and charged him with Simple Assault.

The arrest was the result of joint investigation by members of the State Police ACI Investigations Unit in conjunction with the Department of Corrections Special Investigations Unit, of an incident that occurred at the High Security Center at approximately 8:00 am on July 15th, 2013.

After a thorough investigation, an Affidavit and Arrest Warrant was prepared by Detectives of the ACI Investigations Unit charging Addison with one count of Simple Assault. This warrant was reviewed and signed by the Honorable Judge William C. Clifton of the Third Division District Court.

On December 11, 2013 Detectives from ACI Investigations Unit and a Uniform Trooper from the Lincoln Woods Barracks arrested Addison at his residence in Johnston. Addison was later arraigned at Third Division District Court in front of the Honorable Judge William C. Clifton and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
