Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that on February 16th, 2014, Troopers assigned to the State Police Wickford Barracks responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 95 south in the City of Warwick.
One of the vehicles involved was being operated by an Alessandro Baccari, age 21 of 606 Shannock Road, South Kingstown, Rhode Island. While interacting with Mr. Baccari, Troopers observed various indicators consistent with intoxication. Troopers administered a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene which Mr. Baccari failed. Mr. Baccari was placed under arrest and transported to the Wickford Barracks. Mr. Baccari refused to submit to a chemical test and was subsequently held overnight pending formal arraignment.
On February 17, 2014, Mr. Baccari was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Robert K. Piraglia in the Third District Court in Warwick on the charge of Driving While Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs. At the time of Mr. Bacarri's arraignment, he was also presented as violating terms of his bail that had been set on a previous possession of cocaine charge brought by the Narragansett Police Department in November of 2013. Judge Piraglia released Mr. Baccari on $1,000 personal recognizance under the condition he enter into a drug and alcohol treatment program. Mr. Baccari was also issued summonses for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test and Conditions Requiring Reduced Speed.
