Teams from Department's Workforce Development and Unemployment Insurance Divisions Are Poised to Help Dislocated Workers on Monday, June 23, at 1:30 p.m.
Orientation event will be held at the netWORKri One-Stop Career Center Located at One Reservoir Avenue in Providence.
The Department of Labor and Training is encouraging employees affected by yesterday's abrupt closing of Blue Grotto restaurant to attend a Rapid Response orientation session on Monday, June 23, at 1:30 p.m.
The event will be held at the netWORKri One-Stop Career Center located at One Reservoir Ave. in Providence. It will be held in the Renaissance Room.
Career Center staff will meet dislocated Blue Grotto workers in the office's reception area and accompany them to the meeting room.
DLT's Rapid Response team will be collaborating with the RI Hospitality Association to identify job openings within the hospitality industry to assist with reemploying these workers.
"Any time a Rhode Island company shuts down, its bad news, but when it's an institution as iconic as Blue Grotto, it seems even worse," said DLT Director Charles J. Fogarty. "Our Rapid Response orientation sessions offer dislocated workers immediate structure and strategies that help them get back on their feet as quickly as possible."
Rapid Response staff members conduct on-site services to disseminate information on accessing Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits, One-Stop Career Center re-employment services and training opportunities. Other on-site services include job fairs and customized re-employment workshops offering résumé-writing tips and interviewing strategies.
Fogarty said that DLT's Income Support division would be monitoring UI claims filed in the coming days and weeks to identify Blue Grotto employees so that his Workforce Development team can follow up and help guide them through the department's array of re-employment services.
"Our statistics show that dislocated workers who actively participate in our netWORKri One-Stop Career Centers' programs find work six weeks faster, on average, than those who don't," Fogarty said.
