Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces the arrest of three men on firearm and drug distribution charges by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force Rhode Island Food and Drug Administration-Office of Criminal Investigations (FDA/OCI) Task Force.
On August 21, 2014, members of the HIDTA Task Force and the FDA/OCI Task Force conducted an investigation that resulted in the seizure of a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, approximately three hundred fifty (350) grams of cocaine, approximately sixty (60) grams of heroin and $6,184 in United States currency.
Clyde Ross, age 45, of 81 Gallatin Street, 2nd floor, Providence, Rhode Island is alleged to have been in possession of a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and one hundred (100) grams of cocaine. He was arrested and charged with:
1. Manufacture/Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine- 1oz to 1 Kilo;
2. Possession of a firearm after convicted of a crime of violence, and
3. Possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation.
Clyde Ross is also a probation violator and a bail violator. In 2009, he received a ten year sentence, three years to serve with seven years suspended/probation for drug distribution charges. He was also arrested on July 13, 2014 for Forgery/Counterfeiting trademarks and is currently released on bail.
Shawn Burke, age 28, of 4767 Bennet Road, LaGrange, Maine and Earl Parfitt, age 49, of 203 Charleston Road, Bradford, Maine, are alleged to have been in possession of approximately two hundred fifty (250) grams of cocaine and approximately sixty (60) grams of heroin. Both men were charged with:
1. Manufacture/Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine - 1oz to 1 Kilo;
2. Manufacture/Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin - 1oz to 1 Kilo; and
3. Two counts of Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
All three men were processed at the Lincoln Barracks and arraigned in Sixth Division District Court. The Honorable Associate Judge Frank J. Cenerini held all three men without bail on the above charges at the Adult Correctional Institute.
The HIDTA Task Force is managed by the Rhode Island State Police and comprised of members from Providence Police, Pawtucket Police, Johnston Police, Smithfield Police, Central Falls Police, North Providence Police, United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the United States Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
