Traffic Advisory: Daytime lane closures planned for paving on Route 6 tomorrow

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be closing lanes on Route 6 East and West in the Olneyville section of Providence for paving tomorrow, Saturday, September 27. Part of the Magnolia Bridge removal project, the work is needed to resurface a section of Route 6 that has been realigned to improve safety and traffic flow in this area.

Work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Hartford Avenue and Route 10. Although at least one lane of travel will remain open in both directions, delays are expected and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. There also may be temporary restrictions at the on-ramps from Hartford Avenue and Plainfield Street to Route 6 East.

The daytime work is necessary to take advantage of the mild weather this weekend, which will be ideal for paving. As temperatures get cooler overnight, there are fewer opportunities to complete this weather-sensitive operation.

Additional lane closures will be needed in this area for construction overnight Sunday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic volumes are lower at this time, but delays are expected. At least one lane will remain open in each direction.
