Temporary road closures planned for East Shore Expressway this weekend

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will temporarily close Route 114 (East Shore Expressway) North to I-195 West, beginning at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, October 18, to fix potholes created during this week's heavy rain.

The work is taking place on a crossover road that was recently built in this area while repairs are made to the Wampanoag Trail Bridge, which has been struck twice by oversized vehicles in recent years. The work is scheduled to be completed by 11 a.m.

Motorists can use the Pawtucket Avenue exit and follow that road to another on-ramp for I-195 West. Alternately, motorists can detour onto Route 114A (Mink St.) toward Route 6 in Seekonk, Massachusetts and another on-ramp for I-195 West.

RIDOT also reminds motorists of a weekend closure affecting Warren Avenue between Purchase Street and 1st Street, as well as Exit 5 on I-195 East. This closure (from 10 tonight, Friday, October 17, to 5 a.m. Monday, October 20) is necessary for demolition of the Warren Avenue Bridge, which carries traffic from Veterans Memorial Parkway onto I-195 West. The bridge itself will be closed for approximately one month.
