RIDOT Beginning Roadway Inventory Survey This Week

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is beginning a year-long survey to study the condition of state and local roads.

Through a $1.2 million contract with Data Transfer Solutions, a Mobile Asset Collection (MAC) vehicle is being used to record pavement condition, roadway geometry, the presence of guardrail or signs, and other features along every public road in the state. This data is being collected to aid the Department in completing its asset inventory as well as to guide its efforts in improving the overall condition and safety of the state's roads.

Data collection began on Monday and will continue through September 2015. The survey will begin with the interstate highways and roads on the National Highway System, a federally defined network of major roadways in the state.
