Treasurer-Elect Magaziner Hires Chief of Staff and Chief Legal Counsel

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Treasurer-Elect Seth Magaziner today announced the hiring of two key members of his Treasury staff.

Andrew Roos will serve as Magaziner's Chief of Staff.

Andrew Roos has served as Chief of Staff to Treasurer Raimondo since early 2013. Prior to that, Roos worked for several years at Google where he worked closely with major public sector, non-profit, and private sector advertisers. Before joining Google, Roos worked for over a decade in a number of strategic and management roles, including working for Former Governor Kernan from Indiana, Senator Bill Bradley from New Jersey, and current Delaware Governor Jack Markell (who is a former State Treasurer). Roos graduated from The University of Notre Dame with a BA, and attended Graduate School at Brown University.

"I am impressed with Andrew's passion for the General Treasurer's office, management style and attention to the critical operational challenges the office faces," said Magaziner. "Andrew's experience and institutional knowledge will help me to hit the ground running when I take office next month."

Magaziner also announced that Jeff Padwa will serve as Deputy Treasurer and Chief Legal Counsel.

Jeff Padwa currently serves as Providence City Solicitor, a post Mayor Tavares appointed him to in 2011. Padwa's initiatives as City Solicitor include creating the Nuisance Task Force to address vacant, abandoned and foreclosed properties; pursuing affirmative civil litigation matters such as Securities, Antitrust and Fair Housing Acts cases, which has resulted in tens of million in recoveries in the past four years; and helping to negotiate pension reforms with active and retired members of the city's police, fire and laborers unions. Padwa is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Prior to joining the Tavares administration, Padwa practiced law at the firm he founded, Padwa law, which was devoted to the safety, protection and well-being of the elderly.

"Jeff brings a tremendous amount of legal experience to the Treasury and a proven commitment to fight for the people of Rhode Island, said Magaziner. "Jeff's experience in the areas ranging from pension law to securities litigation will be a huge benefit to the Treasury. I am excited he has agreed to join the team and look forward to working together to move Rhode Island forward."
