Raimondo Nominates Buonanno to Convention Center Authority

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Governor Gina M. Raimondo today announced her intent to nominate Bernard Buonanno Jr. as a member of the Convention Center Authority. Raimondo will submit Buonanno's name for consideration to the Rhode Island State Senate for confirmation.

"Bringing more events and visitors to Rhode Island is key to stimulating the economy," Raimondo said. "I'm thankful to Bernie for his commitment to serve and to bring top-level trade shows, entertainment and sporting events to Rhode Island. Generating more activity at these venues will create jobs and raise our profile as an excellent place to visit for work and play."

As a member of the Convention Center Authority, Buonanno will join the team that oversees the Rhode Island Convention Center, Dunkin' Donuts Center and Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

"Serving on the Authority is a great opportunity to champion economic growth in Providence and throughout the state," said Buonanno. "I look forward to working together with the Governor, the Commerce Secretary, and my colleagues on the Authority to bring world-class entertainment and events to Rhode Island."

Buonanno is currently a partner at Riparian Partners, an investment banking firm in Rhode Island. Prior to this, he was a Partner at Edwards and Angell, a law firm in Rhode Island. He was Chairman of the Providence Civic Center from May 2003 until November of 2005, and a member of the Rhode Island Convention Center from October 2005 to April 2013. Buonanno holds a BA from Brown University and has a JD from Georgetown Law School.
