Treasurer Magaziner Honors North Kingstown High School Students for Commitment to Financial Literacy

PROVIDENCE, RI – General Treasurer Seth Magaziner joined People's Credit Union and local school officials to recognize North Kingstown High School students for the completion of an innovative financial literacy program. Seventy-four students completed the course this year, representing the largest graduating class in the program's history.

The Rhode Island Financial Scholars Program utilizes the EverFi platform, an online program that teachers can use as a valuable financial literacy tool which can easily integrate with a school's curriculum. The platform is aligned to state standards and consists of ten modules covering critical financial literacy topics such as budgeting, credit health/scores, insurance, student loans, mortgages, taxes, and saving and investing.

"This program is helping young people build a sound economic foundation at an early age," said Treasurer Magaziner. "Financial empowerment is a lifelong learning experience, and I'm proud to partner with business, community and educational leaders to help high school students plan for their future."

Many students also received college credit for their participation in the program, through Rhode Island College's Early Enrollment Program (EEP). The EEP offers college credit for highly motivated high school juniors and seniors. RIC's EEP has accepted the EverFi program and, upon completion, awards students with three college credits.
