Rhode Island's Fallen Veterans Honored in Garden of Heroes Remembrance Ceremony

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Lt. Governor Daniel J. McKee was joined by Governor Gina M. Raimondo, Major General Kevin R. McBride, Adjutant General of Rhode Island and Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard, and other dignitaries on Wednesday at a Remembrance Ceremony at the Garden of Heroes to commemorate Memorial Day.

Gov. Raimondo, Lt. Governor McKee and Major General McBride honored Rhode Island's veterans of war with a wreath-laying at the Garden of Heroes, which was officially dedicated in 2005 to Rhode Island service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country since September 11, 2001.

The ceremony was also attended by loved ones of the 27 service men and women honored on the engraved monument at the Garden.

"Today we take the time to stop and remember those men and women who served our country bravely and gave their lives for us," said Lt. Governor McKee. "With the laying of this wreath, we honor them and their service, and pledge to remember them always."

"It's so important to remember the Rhode Island service men and women who gave their lives so we could lead freer, more secure lives here at home," said Governor Raimondo. "Today, we honor these veterans and their loved ones, and express our gratitude for their sacrifices."

The Garden was established through legislation introduced at the request of then-Lt. Governor Charles J. Fogarty. Lt. Governor McKee has pledged his commitment and support to its continued care as custodian of the Garden.
