Throwback for Days Gang Member Pleads Guilty to Gun and Drug Charges

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Miguel Wynns (age 20), of Providence, pleaded guilty today before Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause to possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (heroin), and delivery of a controlled substance (buprenorphine).

Wynns, a known member of the Throwback for Days criminal street gang, was sentenced to 10 years with four and one half years to serve and the remainder suspended with probation.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove that on August 28, 2014 was in possession of a Sig Sauer .380 pistol without a license to carry a firearm. At approximately 11 p.m., Providence Police Patrol Officers Sean Lafferty and Matthew McGloin noticed the driver of a parked motor vehicle in the Pasha Hookah Lounge parking lot smoking marijuana. When the officers approached the vehicle, they noticed Wynn, who was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, acting suspiciously. The officers arrested Wynn charging him with possession of a firearm without a license.

On March 23, 2015, while out on bail, Providence Police Narcotics Detectives observed Wynns deliver buprenorphine substance to a woman on Smith Street. Police later executed a search warrant on Wynn's residence, located at 15 Ruggles Street, where they recovered 132 grams of heroin, fifty .380 rounds of ammunition, and approximately $3,800. Police arrested Wynns charging him with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

"I commend the good instincts and solid police work of the Providence Police for taking an illegal gun and heroin dealer off the streets," said Attorney General Kilmartin.

Special Assistant Attorney General Joseph McBurney prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
