Attorney General's BCI Unit Accepting Credit Cards

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today announced that the Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) now accepts credit cards for transactions performed at the BCI window in Providence.

Applicable transactions include in-person requests for state and national background checks, as well as security guard licenses and precious metal and pawn dealer applications. Credit cards accepted include Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

"Our BCI window is one of the busiest points of service for constituents in the State, serving approximately 300 people each day for a variety of services. Accepting credit cards will expedite the process, and allow the public to get on their way faster," said Attorney General Kilmartin.

The use of credit cards is possible through an agreement with Rhode Island Interactive, the third party vendor for state agencies. A processing fee charged by Rhode Island Interactive of two percent plus 50 cents will be charged per transaction.

The hours of operation for the BCI window at the Office of Attorney General, located at 150 South Main Street, Providence, are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (fingerprinting stops at 4:00 p.m.). In addition to credit cards, the BCI accepts checks and money orders (no cash). Credit cards cannot be used for transactions submitted through the mail; only checks and money orders are accepted (no cash).
