STATE FISCAL FITNESS TEAM ANNOUNCES FIRST-EVER VENDOR TRAINING WORKSHOP

Training Will Highlight Improvements To State Purchasing Processes

“Open for Business” 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2006 Crowne Plaza Hotel 801 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI

Governor Donald L. Carcieri’s Fiscal Fitness team, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, and the state Division of Purchases have joined forces to offer a free, first-of-its-kind vendor-assistance training program at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick on Wednesday, September 20th, 2006. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Entitled “Open for Business,” the half-day workshop will highlight recent improvements and additions to the way the state makes purchases and does business with vendors. Recent work by Fiscal Fitness and the state’s Division of Purchases include online “reverse auctions” and more aggressive negotiating by combining the needs of multiple areas of government, resulting in increased “leveraged buying” power.

“Fiscal Fitness has worked with the state’s purchasing team to make some great improvements, making things easier for the vendors and getting better prices for the state, but it’s still just the tip of the iceberg,” says Dan Majcher, director of Fiscal Fitness. “Bringing Rhode Island vendors to the table will help increase competition, which will in turn help the state’s bottom line.”
