Traffic Advisory Reminder: More Two-Way Traffic Coming to the Apponaug Circulator

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is reminding motorists that traffic pattern changes are scheduled to take effect tomorrow, Wednesday, November 16, which represent the next step in completing the Apponaug Circulator in the City of Warwick.

All schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Phase I: Post Road East

What is happening?

Effective Wednesday, November 16, a section of Route 1 (Post Road) running along the eastern edge of Apponaug will be permanently changed to two-way traffic. Today, the road only serves one-way traffic heading north. Note: Motorists on Post Road driving past City Hall will need to yield at the new West Shore Road roundabout.

Who will use it?

Motorists traveling south between the Greenwood section of the city or the T.F. Green State Airport area and West Shore Road. Also, motorists heading from Apponaug village or West Shore Road toward Greenwood or the Airport area.

What roads are affected?

Route 1 (Post Road) between the new roundabout at the intersection of Post Road, Post Road Extension and Veterans Memorial Drive and the new roundabout at West Shore Road.

Motorists are reminded to yield to traffic already in the circle as they approach each roundabout. Traffic cones will be placed along the double-yellow center line in this stretch of roadway to indicate to motorists that they need to use the roundabouts to reverse direction and access side streets rather than making left hand turns.

Additional segments of one-way roadway will transition to two-way traffic later this month, relocating the main flow of traffic around Apponaug instead of directly through the heart of this historic village.
