Houdini Inc. Recalls Blue Cheese Savory Twists Due To Potential Salmonella Contamination

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is advising consumers that Houdini Inc. is recalling Blue Cheese Savory Twists products that were made with powdered buttermilk supplied by a secondary supplier due to possible Salmonella contamination.

A limited quantity of products was distributed nationwide to consumers through Wine Country Gift Baskets and Houdini Inc's wholesale division. The recall only affects the Blue Cheese Savory Twists in gift baskets that were shipped or sold between September 1, 2016, and December 12, 2016. Full product descriptions are available online.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses.

Houdini Inc. initiated the recall after being notified that the FDA found traces of Salmonella at the manufacturing facility of the ingredient supplier for the powdered buttermilk used to make the Blue Cheese seasoning in these products. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Customers who purchased the recalled product should dispose of it immediately.

Consumers with questions may contact Houdini Inc.'s Customer Care at 866-712-5910.
