Interim Report of the Statewide Grand Jury (Reported December 13, 2017)

The Statewide Grand Jury reported out an indictment charging Joylinn Gelpi and Rafael Freitas each with one count of first degree sexual assault, conspiracy to commit first degree sexual assault, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, simple assault, and assault on an impaired person. Additionally, Gelpi was charged with 10 counts of felony assault and Freitas was charged with four counts of felony assault on the same victim.

It is alleged that on or about dates between August 1, 2017 and October 31, 2017, Gelpi and Freitas kidnapped and physically and sexually assaulted a severely impaired 28-year-old female.

The alleged incidents took place in Pawtucket and the Pawtucket Police conducted the investigation.

Gelpi and Freitas, both currently being held without bail at the ACI, are scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on January 10, 2018.
