Woonsocket man sentenced to 9 years at the ACI for first-degree child molestation

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that George Dugas (age 56), of Woonsocket was sentenced on December 3, 2019 in Providence County Superior Court to 9 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree child molestation. Superior Court Justice Susan E. McGuirl sentenced Dugas to 25 years with nine years to serve at the ACI and the balance suspended with probation.

Dugas was also ordered by the court to complete mandatory sex-offender registration and counseling. The court also issued a no-contact order between Dugas and his victim.

Dugas pleaded to one count of first-degree child molestation during his trial on October 11, 2019. Had the trial reached its conclusion, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that between February 4, 2013 and February 3, 2014, Dugas molested a 13-year-old female victim, who was known to him, at an apartment on Bellevue Avenue in Woonsocket.

Detective Jamie Martin of the Woonsocket Police Department led the investigation into the case. Assistant Attorney General Shannon Signore prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
