www.recovery.ri.gov Posts Stimulus-funded DOT Projects Using Google™ Maps Technology

Governor Carcieri’s Office of Economic Recovery & Reinvestment today launched a new feature on its website – www.recovery.ri.gov – using Google™ maps technology to highlight each stimulus-funded Rhode Island Department of Transportation (DOT) projects across Rhode Island.

By clicking on a project pinpoint on the map, visitors can view details such as the project name and description, estimated cost, project status, start and end date, information on completion of project, and the contractor.

“We are continually trying to increase the amount of and improve the quality of information available on how the stimulus funds are being used,” said Governor Donald L. Carcieri. “This new tool lets our citizens see where their tax dollars are being spent and gives visitors to the site important information about work zones.” With 48 stimulus-funded transportation projects authorized, and an additional 31 federally-funded transportation projects that have already been advertised, bid or awarded, Rhode Island is anticipating one of the busiest construction seasons in recent years. More projects are expected as well.

“From Westerly to Woonsocket, and nearly every place in between, RIDOT is working hard to improve our transportation system,” said Michael P. Lewis, RIDOT Director. “This new map will help motorists better understand what is going on the roads in their neighborhood or on their way to work.” For more information on the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and its impact on Rhode Island, please visit www.recovery.ri.gov.
