Providence, RI - Governor Lincoln D. Chafee has nominated Peter T. Ginaitt for the Board of the Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA), replacing Thomas E. Deller, and has nominated Jerome F. Williams for reappointment.
"As Governor, I am committed to operating a customer-friendly public transportation system that provides the best possible service to the people of Rhode Island," Governor Chafee said. "The members of the RIPTA Board will remain critical partners in this effort."
The Governor's nominations require the advice and consent of the Rhode Island Senate.
Jerome F. Williams (reappointment)
Jerome Williams has served as Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration at Roger Williams University since 2009, following an extensive career in state government and the financial services industry.
Williams previously served as Director of Rhode Island's Department of Administration from 2008 to 2009 and Director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation from 2007 to 2008. Before that, Williams served as Executive Director of the Department of Administration from 2003 to 2007 after more than a decade as the Department's Deputy Director. He also served for nine years as Senior Vice President of Fleet Boston Financial, as Deputy General Treasurer for the State of Rhode Island, and as Town Treasurer for the Town of Barrington.
Williams holds two bachelor's degrees from Bryant University, where he studied Institutional Management and Accounting. He also earned a master's in Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting from Bryant in 1986.
Peter T. Ginaitt (replacing Thomas Deller)
Peter Ginaitt has served as Corporate Director of Emergency Preparedness for Lifespan Health System since 2007, after four years at Rhode Island Hospital as Director of Emergency Preparedness. Ginaitt retired from the City of Warwick Fire Department in 2005, after serving as Rescue Captain, Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, and Registered Nurse since 1984.
Ginaitt was elected in a special election to the Rhode Island House of Representatives and served from 1992 to 2007. During his tenure in the House, he served as Chairman of the Fire Safety Oversight Committee, Chairman of the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Health Education and Welfare, and Vice Chairman of the Long Term Care Coordinating Council.
Ginaitt also owns and operates residential real estate investments through Bayside Properties and previously owned and operated Ginaitt Landscape Services. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island, where he studied Resource Development and Landscape Architecture. He holds two associate's degrees, in Nursing and Fire Science, from the Community College of Rhode Island. He has also studied Project Management for Executive Development at Bryant University.
