RIDOT to temporarily close Escoheag Hill Road Bridge in Exeter for repairs

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced that it will temporarily close the State-owned Escoheag Hill Road Bridge in Exeter for repairs, effective this afternoon, March 15, 2013. The bridge is located just north of the intersection with Route 165 (Ten Rod Road).

"Safety is the Department's top priority, and this closure is necessary to protect motorists while repairs are made," RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis said. "We will make every effort to reopen the bridge as soon as possible."

The closure comes after an inspection revealed cracked masonry in the stone abutments supporting the span. The Department already has consulted with a contractor to assess the damage and begin developing a repair plan. The structure is expected to reopen in approximately one week.

Those north of the closure should follow the detour route using Escoheag Hill Road and other local roads to Plain Meeting House Road and Route 102 (Victory Highway). Follow Route 102 South to Route 3 South (Nooseneck Hill Road) and turn right to reach Ten Rod Road. Click below for a detour map.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional information can be found on RIDOT's social media sites Twitter and Facebook.
