Heavy Snow Predicted

Heavy Snow Predicted For RI

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for all southern RI coastal communities including Block Island, Washington County, as well as Newport and Bristol Counties. In general a Blizzard Watch means snow accumulation of around 12 inches. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the rest of RI. They are predicting 6-12 inches of snow and high winds for most of Rhode Island starting at around 5:00PM Saturday afternoon thru Sunday. Cold temperatureswill not climb out of the 20’s, with high seas and some beach erosion likely Winds could gust to 50 miles per hour. Stay tuned to updated forecasts tomorrow afternoon.

You can monitor the latest National Weather Service Advisories at www.riema.ri.gov. Executive Director J. David Smith stated “RIEMA will activate the State Emergency Operations Center at the first sign of snow on Saturday and remain active as long as is deemed necessary.”

This storm will be the first major test of the recently completed State Winter Storm Plan.
