Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin issued the following statement regarding the Superior Court decision regarding the release of 38 Studios grand jury documents:
"We appreciate Presiding Justice Gibney's well-reasoned and thoughtful decision upholding the special role of the grand jury in the criminal justice system.
"As Presiding Justice Gibney determined, 'allowing public clamor alone to justify disclosure would cause the exception' for the release of grand jury materials 'to swallow the rule' and would 'entirely defeat the purpose, and role, of the grand jury.' While the subject of this case was 38 Studios, at its core it was about the integrity of the grand jury process and its role within the administration of justice. The Superior Court's decision upholds the rule of law.
"I would like to thank the prosecutors who led the 38 Studios criminal investigation and the team of attorneys who defended the preservation of the grand jury process."
