Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, announces that a South Kingstown woman has been arrested on multiple charges in connection with a fatal crash that killed two people in East Greenwich on January 27, 2018.
Precious G. Montey, age 25, of 364 Curtis Corner Road, South Kingstown, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, resulting in death. She was held overnight at State Police headquarters, pending arraignment in Third Division District Court later today.
Montey's arrest stems from a crash that occurred at approximately 3:05 a.m. on Route 4, near the intersection with the northbound lanes of Interstate 95. The investigation showed that Montey was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty north on Route 4 when she lost control of the car, veered across two lanes of traffic, and struck a tree in the high-speed median.
Two passengers, Emma Brown, age 21, 17 Bethany Road, Wakefield, and Lorenzo Smith, age 33, 576 Fort Road, South Kingstown, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Montey and a third passenger in the car, Chanon A. Johnson, 32, of 57 Mockingbird Drive, Exeter, were taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were treated and later released.
As a result of an investigation by troopers from the State Police Wickford Barracks and the Collision Reconstruction Unit, a warrant was issued for Montey's arrest. She surrendered to troopers at the Wickford Barracks last night. The investigation showed that her blood-alcohol level was .210, nearly three times the legal limit of .08, at the time of the crash.
