RI Division of Sheriffs Seeks Accreditation; Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, announces that a team of assessors from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC) will arrive at the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs Headquarters on December 19, 2018, to examine all aspects of the agency's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.

Verification by the RIPAC Assessment Team that the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs meets the Commission's standards is part of a voluntary process through which this agency seeks recognition of professional excellence in law enforcement. This is the first time the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs has sought formal accreditation through RIPAC.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the RIPAC Assessment Team using the following methods:

By calling (401) 275-2930 on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 between 12 noon and 1 p.m. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with RIPAC standards.

By offering written comments about the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs' ability to meet the standards for accreditation, which should be sent to: RIPAC Executive Director Christine Crocker by to P.O. Box 7877, Cumberland, RI, 02864 or by email at crocker.riapc@cox.net.

Accreditation is for three (3) years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those applicable standards under which they were accredited.
