As the latest winter storm quickly develops with expected snowfall to begin during the morning hours, and continuing, heavy at times, throughout the day and evening on Wednesday, Governor Donald L. Carcieri is encouraging all non essential state employees to use the greatest discretion in deciding to leave work in advance of the storm.

Although the State has not declared a state of emergency and the state policy on adverse weather conditions are in effect, all non-essential employees should exercise caution in deciding when to leave work. Attached is a copy of the state’s inclement weather policy for state employees.

The Governor also encourages private sector employees to take similar action and, where possible, to allow employees to leave work in advance of the storm.

The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RI-EMA), in coordination with the Rhode Island State Police, the Department of Transportation, and local emergency management agencies, are closely monitoring the path and scope of the storm.

For questions regarding the storm and for the latest updates from the RI-EMA, media should contact Steve Kass, Public Information Officer for the RI-EMA, at 462-7127.
