Carcieri to Lead Health Walk Around State House
Wednesday, June 29, 2005 2:00 p.m. State House South Terrace
Governor Donald L. Carcieri and his wife, Suzanne, will announce an initiative that will bring health and wellness programs to state employees at their worksites. The initiative -- called “Get Fit, Rhode Island!” -- is designed to reduce the barriers that workers face in improving their health. Governor Carcieri will also announce the state’s new Wellness Director, who will coordinate the programming among departments and agencies.
Governor and Mrs. Carceri will be joined by Dr. David R. Gifford, the Director of the Department of Health, URI President Robert L. Carothers, and about 25 Wellness Champions, employees who have been selected to work with the Wellness Director in setting up programs for their departments. Both the Department of Health and URI will play key roles in this initiative.
Following the remarks, the Governor and Mrs. Carcieri will lead a walk around the State House to mark the “first steps” of this new initiative.
NOTE: In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the State House rotunda.
