Governor Donald L. Carcieri presided at the seventh annual remembrance of the September 11th 2001 attacks, in a ceremony at the State House this morning. “There are only a few dates that carry a national significance,” Governor Carcieri said. “Sadly, September 11th is one of them. This will always be a day of reflection, remembrance and healing.”
Following the posting of the colors by an inter-service Color Guard, Pawtucket Firefighters Timothy Pacheco IV and Robert F. Thurber III led the Pledge of Allegiance with the assistance of 54 members of the fourth grade at Greenville’s William Winsor Elementary School.
Tenor Fredric Scheff sang the National Anthem, Rachel Warren of Trinity Repertory Company say “I Will Remember You” and Dennis Costa of Wakefield Music Co. played a Bach prelude on guitar. John Knasas of Brass Attack played a haunting saxophone rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.
Reverend David F. Ricard of Kent Hospital gave the invocation. First Lady Suzanne Carcieri read “Winter’s Eve” by Alice Odabashian, and Rabbi Marc Jagolinzer of Temple Shalom in Middletown gave the benediction.
