I know that progress has been made in reducing wait times at DMV but I am still hoping to do my transactions from the comfort of my home. What options are available online?

RI DMV allows you to complete a number of transactions online. Here is a complete list of all DMV online services:

Driver's License Renewal – You'll need a current driver's license or renewal notice, a credit card and billing address and a printer in order to print your receipt. You will be asked questions regarding vision exams and/or any impairment, organ donor status and voter registration. You will not be able to make any changes to your license information via this online service. Federal regulations prohibit online renewal of Commercial Driver Licenses (CDL).

Registration Renewal – You'll need your current vehicle registration or renewal notice, your current vehicle insurance card, a credit card and billing address, and a printer connected to your computer to print your receipt. If you pay property taxes in Barrington, Central Falls, Exeter or Warren, you may not use this online renewal service due to municipal tax clearance requirements. Please contact your local town hall for more information.

Licensed Driver Records - You will need a credit card, and you must provide your driver's license number, last name, date of birth, and the zip code that appears on your license. This electronic record retrieval system displays driver license validity and restrictions, CDL details, and driving history information only. Federal regulations restrict access to personal information, including address and social security number Records provided through this online service contain the driving record history for the past three years only and are copies of the official state of RI driver record as provided by DMV.

If you go to DMV's website, you will also be able to reserve a vanity license plate for your passenger vehicle, motorcycle or commercial vehicle under 9001 lbs. You may also request a remake of your war veteran plate.

Through DMV's website, you also have the ability to access title records currently on file with DMV, complete and submit an SI-1 auto lien holder registration, apply for an oversize/overweight trucking permit, or purchase and print temporary IRP trucking permits if you have a valid US DOT number, a credit card and billing address, and a printer to print out your receipt.
