Media Update: Bristol County Residents and Businesses Affected by Severe Storms and Flooding

In response to questions raised at a press conference held earlier today, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano assured Bristol County residents that FEMA officials are moving quickly to assess damages and amend the federal "Major Disaster Declaration" to include Bristol County.

While the process is continuing, individuals and businesses in Bristol County who have been affected by severe storms and flooding still need to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). FEMA will provide a nine-digit registration number.

Registered individuals and businesses that are located in an "undesignated county," will be put in a queue pending amendment of federal major disaster declaration. Upon amended declaration, those claims will be automatically processed by FEMA (no need to re-register so long as FEMA provided an initial nine-digit registration number).

Please note: when initially contacting FEMA, if an individual or business is told they are "not eligible," they should still register. Upon registering, FEMA automatically sends a letter indicating ineligibility. This is an automatic letter. Once the federal "major disaster declaration" is amended to include Bristol County, individuals will receive separate notification.
