West Kingston’s Kerri Ann Skwirz Promoted to Coordinator of Counseling

Assistant Director of Rehabilitative Services Roberta Richman has announced the promotion of West Kingston’s Kerri Ann Skwirz, a ten-year veteran of the Department, to Coordinator of Counseling, effective May 24th. Ms. Skwirz has been an Adult Counselor with the Department since 2000.

Ms. Skwirz began her career as a case manager on a child protection team that provided specialized diagnostic services to abused and neglected children in Florida in collaboration with Florida DCYF, law enforcement, and the state’s Attorney General. From 1990-97, she worked for Blackstone Valley RIARC in Pawtucket as a Program Manager, where she supervised programs including fiscal operations. From 1997-2000, Ms. Skwirz worked as a clinician, providing service coordination and counseling for youth and families for Child and Family Services of Newport County.

Since coming to the RIDOC, Ms. Skwirz has worked primarily at the John M. Moran Medium Security Facility. In her new position, she will be responsible for day-to-day management and supervision of adult counselors in the sentenced facilities. In announcing her promotion, Assistant Director Richman wrote, “Ms. Skwirz brings an excellent background in clinical, supervisory, and administrative experience in the field of human services and more than 10 years of experience in Corrections counseling. I am confident that she will contribute to and strengthen our efforts to improve and expand the work of Rehabilitative Services.”

Ms. Skwirz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College and a Master of Science degree in Administration of Justice from Salve Regina University.
