Lt. Governor Roberts Joins South Kingstown, Narragansett Chambers for "Buy Local" Tour on New Trolley Service

Providence, RI - July 20, 2010

Lt. Governor Elizabeth H. Roberts rode the new Southern Rhode Island Trolley on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, from the Holiday Inn, Route 138 and Route 1, South Kingstown, for a tour of several local businesses in South County. In a new effort supported by the South Kingstown and Narragansett Chambers of Commerce, along with 35 local member businesses, the trolley route is designed to showcase retail attractions and restaurants in South County as part of their "Shop Local” campaign and gift certificate program (skchamber.com). Roberts was joined by staff from both Chambers and the Holiday Inn.

In 2009, Lt. Gov. Roberts, Chair of the Small Business Advocacy Council, launched "Buy Local RI," a statewide initiative to grow the sales and consumer base for locally owned businesses. Roberts and members of the Small Business Advocacy Council joined with members of local Chambers of Commerce, local business owners and state and local elected officials to help create a statewide network and website (buylocalri.org) dedicated to expanding the market for local businesses and products by connecting people to Rhode Island businesses.
