Lt. Governor Roberts Convenes Long Term Care Coordinating Council to Discuss One of the State's Largest Budget Drivers

Providence, RI - October 12, 2010

Global Medicaid Waiver, comprising one-third of the state budget, determines health care coverage for low income Rhode Islanders and Rhode Islanders with disabilities

Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts will convene the Long Term Care Coordinating Council on Wednesday, October 13th at 10:00 am at Home and Hospice Care of R.I., 1085 North Main Street, Providence, to review reports from the Department of Human Services regarding the status of Rhode Island's Medicaid Waiver and implementation efforts.

Medicaid (health care for low income Rhode Islanders and Rhode Islanders with disabilities) represents a third of the state budget. The state's Global Medicaid Waiver is entering its second year of implementation.

Reports will focus on managed care initiatives as well as new initiatives to serve more Rhode Islanders in need of long term care in their own homes and in community settings. The Council will also discuss the long term care issues involved in implementing national health care reform in Rhode Island.

The Long Term Care Coordinating Council brings together representatives from the long term care industry, home care, advocates, as well as government agencies providing services, oversight and protection to Rhode Islanders in need of long term care.
