RIDOT closing rural road in Coventry for flood repair

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is closing a portion of a local road in Coventry in order to repair a culvert damaged by the flooding in March.

The closure will affect Maple Valley Road in western Coventry and will remain in effect through October 22, 2010.

During the flood repair, motorists will need to follow a detour using Hammet Road or Franklin Road and Route 117 (Flat River Road). Motorists heading west on Route 117 who normally use Town Farm Road to reach Maple Valley Road should consider remaining on Route 117 and using Franklin Road or Route 102 (Victory Highway) depending on their destination on Maple Valley Road.

This project is one of more than 300 locations throughout the state that RIDOT is working on to repair damage caused by the historic flooding this spring. All flood repair projects are being fast-tracked to minimize the duration of road or lane closures.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT’s website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
