Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee Names Brian Daniels Director of Policy for Governor’s Office

Providence, R.I.—Governor-elect Lincoln D. Chafee announced today that Brian M. Daniels, who served for six years as Legislative Director in the Washington office of Congressman Jim Langevin, will be Director of Policy in the Governor’s office. “Brian is highly talented, intelligent, and motivated,” Chafee said. “His past experience gives him a broad understanding of the issues facing our state. Brian will be responsible for a broad-based policy agenda with the aim of getting Rhode Island back on track.” As Director of Policy, Daniels will supervise a staff of several policy associates and analysts who, under his direction, will aid in providing supporting information for the development of Governor-elect Chafee’s policy platform. Since August, Brian M. Daniels has worked as a research consultant at the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC), where he focused on federal health care reform and the steps that the state and municipal governments must take for its implementation. He is also an Associate Partner with Social Venture Partners Rhode Island, a partnership of engaged entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and social investors who catalyze social enterprise development in Rhode Island by providing social, intellectual, and financial capital. Daniels previously worked for seven years in the Washington office of Congressman Jim Langevin, initially as Legislative Assistant and then, from 2002-2008, as Legislative Director. Prior to joining Langevin’s office, Daniels served as Legislative Correspondent, Systems Administrator and Staff Assistant in former Congressman Robert Weygand’s Washington office. Daniels earned a BA, magna cum laude, from Duke and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. While at Yale, Daniels worked with the Economic Development Corporation of New Haven as the Yale President’s Public Service Fellow. A Warwick native, he currently resides in Providence.
